A Potential Breakthrough - V0 Cross

· · Members Area post from

I was organizing my design folders yesterday in Fusion when I randomly opened the V0 Cross CAD and I think there's a potential breakthrough here. As it stands, it seems like I can finally fix the gripes I've had with this particular cross-gantry design for a year now.

The new layout has:

  • Live shafts without losing the 120x120mm travel
  • 9mm XY belts without ruining one of the stack heights like on the K3
  • Easier to align XY
  • 55mm stepper shaft compatibility (maybe)
  • No added MGN7H rails, only the stock ones (less M2 hardware)
  • A simple, synced 3-point Z system that's rigid, and with more Z travel than originally thought with a Chube-length hotend
  • More rigid "tophat"
  • Simpler frame assembly

I've only verified this new layout with 2D sketches, but I've already ordered the necessary parts for the changes because it looks so promising. Hopefully, I can throw something together in the coming days when I have some free time.

Based on the previous public poll I'll be focusing on a mixed sheet metal/SLM design.
