Frame Struggles - Monolith Zero

Monolith Zero motor mounting

It's been a while since I disassembled the V0 frame, but it's quite a challenge to check all the boxes I wanna check:

  • Standard MakerBeam lengths (100, 200, 300, 360mm)
  • No more 200mm ones than what's in the V0.2
  • Extrusion door
  • Maximizing the tophat space for the shaft length
  • Enough room for the Z belt and the PSUs
  • No additional printed or sheet metal parts for the tophat

I was hesitant to use 1515 corner cubes, because of quality and accessibility concerns, but even the ones I found on Aliexpress seem to be pretty nice aside from being tumbled into oblivion. These made me realign the steppers to the 1515 corner holes.

This means, similarly to the thermistor mounting solution Baduckluar and I came up with, we can simply remove one stepper screw and bolt the tophat frame to the steppers without the use of any custom parts. This also means more passive cooling for the XY motors.

I suspect it will be easy to get this thing in the 90-100C range, and seeing the many warped K3 doors, I think it makes sense to have an extrusion door from the get-go.

I'm still struggling to find the perfect Z motion + XY gantry + Tophat height combo to match extrusion door height, but once that's out of the way the rest is gonna be easier.
