SLM MGN12H vs LDO kit MGN9H XY-joints

· · Members Area post from

Last time, I think it wasn't completely clear: the rail sizes here are for the Y-axis. The X-axis in both cases is MGN12H.

Test conditions:

  • 300mm flying gantry
  • 4040/2040 frame
  • 3mm aluminum structural side panels
  • 2020 Y-extrusions with 2mm stainless backers
  • Double SLM Z-joints
  • LDO 2504 S45Rs @2.5A and 36V
  • LDO CNC kit motor mounts
  • EPDM 10mm belts @20lbs
  • Custom lightweight X-rail, Z2 (or even higher) preload
  • Carbonara with Ti hardware
  • Experimental Monolith Toolhead
  • Measured with Beacon at room temperature
  • Accel/Hz = 125
  • No sweeping
  • Same XY joint hardware and motion, where possible

The only difference is the XY joints and Y rails.

(Both of the X-graphs are wider than I'd like, and I have some ideas why that is the case. It's best to dedicate a whole post to that investigation.)

As I emphasized earlier, the overall moving masses between these two configurations are almost identical, which is backed up by the very similar graphs.
