Input Shaper Graphs 3 - Monolith Zero
We haven’t observed a significant increase in frequency with the all-metal gantry compared to the enhanced FDM one, which makes sense since the moving mass is probably heavier, offsetting the rigidity increase.
Before this, I hadn’t really delved into the IS uniformity due to the unfinished plastic parts and the lack of structural panels. Now that I have, it showed me a pretty significant variation in frequency and sharpness as well.
Fortunately, I already had my suspicions about certain design choices we made for these prototypes. In the next parts of this series, I’m going to tackle them one by one to see the added benefits that they bring. I suppose some of this can also be useful for the larger Monolith builds.
The first thing is the rear bottom XY gantry extrusion. We initially got rid of it because of the rear Z-rail delete, but now it’s pretty obvious that the structural rear panel alone isn't enough to offset its absence.
