Insulation Planning - Monolith Zero
The heat loss through the aluminum panels is significant. Without the sheet cooling (acting as bed fans) and the extra heat from the bed, steppers, hotend, and CPAP, the temperature can barely reach about 50°C in 30 minutes. The printer is almost unusable for ABS without insulation, even with the chamber heater on full blast.
We’ll have to make the insulation process simple.
The primary victim of this process has been the third, panel-mounted Z-rail, which only made the alignment harder and increased the potential risk of binding. Since we have a very thick bed mounting plate, rigidity won’t be an issue, and the front rails can be easily aligned. I welcome this change suggested by Zruncho at the beginning, following our discussion of the layout in the Prusa Core One.
Based on this week’s tinkering, I can confirm that the 10mm thick insulation everywhere has significantly improved the thermal efficiency and noise levels.
